Nearly three decades of service in Camberwell
From a nucleus of three founders in 1997 to a registered charity serving Muslims of every background — this is the story of Jama-at-ul Islamiyya of Nigeria UK.
Our History
Founded to meet a real need
Camberwell Islamic Centre was established to address both the religious and social needs of the large Muslim community in the Camberwell area.
Three individuals — Tajudeen Iginla, the late Lawal Babatunde Martins, and Abdul Fatai Babatunde Fashola — form the nucleus of what would become Jama-at-ul Islamiyya of Nigeria UK (JINUK).
The organisation receives full charity status, with its principal aim being the advancement of the Islamic religion.
The centre grows into a home for worship, education and community services — remembering, among others, the contributions of the late Imam Alhaji Abdul Rasheed Balogun.

We cater for a large Muslim community in the Camberwell area, with members originating from many ethnicities — Nigerians, Arabs, Somalians, Asians, Jamaicans, Sierra Leoneans and Ghanaians among them.
Our Services
Practical support at every stage of life
Funeral Services
Janazah prayer services are held at the mosque and arranged via the main office, coordinated with East London Mosque for the preparation and washing of the deceased.
Marriage Services
An informal introduction service for Muslim brothers and sisters of marriageable age, plus ceremonies honouring both Islamic and civil traditions.
Family Counselling
Individual and family counselling is available to those experiencing problems, or wanting advice on marriage. Sessions require advance scheduling with the Imam.
Qur'an & Arabic Classes
A range of Arabic courses at all levels, taught during the evening and at weekends. Registration and admission forms are required for enrolment.
Visits & Tours
We welcome visitors from schools, interfaith groups and other organisations wishing to learn about the Islamic faith and the life of the centre.
Daily Prayer & Jumu'ah
Five daily congregational prayers and Friday Jumu'ah, hosted in a purpose-built main prayer hall.
